Why Convert Tennis to Padel Courts?
With padel tennis becoming one of the fastest-growing sports in the UAE, many sports clubs, residential communities, and hotels are finding their traditional tennis courts underutilized. Converting a single, sprawling tennis court into a padel facility is one of the most efficient ways to maximize space and significantly boost rental revenue and community engagement.
Space Requirements: 1 Tennis Court = 2 Padel Courts
One of the primary drivers of this trend is sheer space efficiency. A standard tennis court requires a footprint of approximately 36m x 18m (including run-off zones). In contrast, a single padel court requires a strict 20m x 10m footprint.
Because of this, two padel courts can comfortably fit within the footprint of a single standard tennis court, instantly doubling the capacity of players (from 2-4 tennis players to 8 padel players simultaneously) and doubling potential hourly court booking revenues.
Structural Foundation & Slab Preparation
While an existing tennis court provides an excellent starting base, it cannot be used "as is" without structural modification. Padel courts feature heavy glass enclosures and substantial steel frameworks that require proper foundational anchoring. We approach the conversion in several structural steps:
- Surface Assessment: Evaluating the existing asphalt or concrete base for cracks, settling, or water damage.
- Ring Beam Construction: A reinforced concrete ring beam (footer) must be poured around the perimeter of the new padel court dimensions to anchor the heavy steel posts and glass panels safely.
- Leveling: Pouring a porous concrete layer or leveling compound to ensure a perfectly flat base, preventing water pooling and ensuring true ball bounce.
Padel Enclosure & Steel Framework Installation
Once the foundation ring beam has cured, the structural steel work begins. This is where the conversion takes shape. Heavy-duty galvanized steel pillars are bolted directly into the new concrete ring beam to withstand wind loads and player impacts. The tempered glass panels (typically 10mm or 12mm) and rigid welded mesh are then integrated into the frame.
Turf, Lighting, and Finishing
The final stage of the conversion involves laying the specialized padel turf over the prepared base. Padel requires highly specific artificial turf (often monofilament or texturized) heavily filled with silica sand to allow players to slide and the ball to bounce consistently.
Additionally, tennis court lighting is generally insufficient or incorrectly positioned for padel. New 6-meter lighting columns with specialized LED floodlights are integrated directly into the steel enclosure to provide uniform, glare-free illumination.
